Happy July 4th!

Happy 4th of July!  Nine out of ten American Flags are made in China!!! and
Nine out of ten fireworks (yes, we still make them) are made in China!!! and

there is no longer such a thing as an "American Hamburger".  The average one
pound package of hamburger contains the DNA of over 400 cows from all over
                              the world...none local.

I wonder what it would take, maybe as a sign of patriotism, to take just one day
in a year, maybe even July 4th, our birthday, and only "Buy American"?

Think of all the stuff you couldn't buy?  Walmart would close.  McDonald's
would close.  You couldn't even buy a paint brush!  You couldn't even sit at
home and watch television!  If you could find a real book, the old fashioned kind
with pages and the smell of a book, maybe you could do that, but no electronic
                             books.  We don't make those!

"Lil' Abner" (google that for fun!) got it right! "We have met the enemy and he is us!"

Happy 4th of July!  It is our birthday!

Yes, it's a sad state of affairs how many things are no longer made in the good ole USA, and I don't think I would miss, for long "what I couldn't buy". I long for those days when we weren't "over indulged" with all the "made in China" crap and useless stimulation of no value. Perhaps that's why I buy old crap... most of it is made in the USA by skilled hands and conscious minded artisans. Made in China gets set back on the shelf 99% of the time.
Having a Happy 4th of July this year is a little difficult for me to celebrate as I watch both of my hometowns battle the worst fires in their history, and on every corner they are selling fireworks! How many of those are made in China I wonder. Perhaps it's a diabolical plan to see us all go up in flames.

Imagine my amazment when finding out my wonderful stainless steel cookware, that I LOVE, was made in China. I'm wondering if that $200 saucepan only cost $2 to make :(

Jerry, I know you don't wonder at why I'm so disheartened about our country, you already know how I feel. I still love the old things , when I buy from an old antique shop, or flea market I love seeing those words, Made in the USA.
And how often do we see that anymore.. I would love to boycott all things made outside but we would have no clothes, food, furniture.
A few years ago I watched a series on PBS I wish I could remember the name,, but 15-20 or so people from different parts of this country and all different professions. They were chosen to start out on a journey, using nothing but hand made 'everything' I mean EVERYTHING. And establish a small settlement.. The program was so true to what it was like in those day.. I was so intrigued.. ( now I can't remember the name) go figure !! but, they did it without any of the things we have today.. I'm not saying we should live like that. but it certainly makes you realize that you CAN do with out a lot of the garbage we carry around today...
